Hyde Park

We spent nearly the whole day in Bath. There are quite a lot to see there. These include:

1. Bath Spa Railway Station;
2. Roman Baths;
3. Bath Abbey;
4. A weekend fair;
5. the Pulteney Bridge.

The British has got a long railway history. It is dated back to the age of Industrial Revolution in the 19th century. Inevitably, it's quite easy to find some antique buildings and structures along the whole British railway network.

Our journey to Bath started at the Bristol Temple Meads Station. The main building is apparently over 100 years old. Despite the old furniture and finishes, you need not worry about the room temperature as it has been regulated by air-con, which has been there some couples of years ago.

When you look up into the concourse ceiling, it is crossed with steel arches and trusses. Playing back the Harry Potter series in your mind, you may wish to find out where platform no. 9 3/4 is.

The city is named after the famous Roman Baths. The Roman Baths are situated at the city centre. It's one of the ancient Roman sites in England. The bath area is below the current street level. The whole site comprises four compartments, namely the Sacred Springs, the Roman Temple, the Roman Bath House and the Museum.

We didn't have a closer look of the Roman Baths after we had been stunned by the ticket price (at least GBP 11.00). Alternatively, a video is played repeatedly at the entrance. It briefs the history, the features and the related knowledge about the Roman Baths. Watching this video is free of charge.

The Bath Abbey, just opposite the Roman Baths, has been standing there since the 7th century. It's another example of the Gothic Architecture. When looking from above, it is cruciform in plan. The current building was restored in the years 1948-1960.

There's a small plaza between the Roman Baths and the Bath Abbey. At times, you will find several buskers. We came across a man who was playing a special instrument which looked like a chinese wok. Tapping on the different part of that instrument would create different pitches. These pitches combined together and formed very soft and relaxing music.

Bath is another peaceful city that is smaller than Bristol. You cannot see any tall buildings there. What go into your eyes are old houses and chapels. Time freezes here. Instead of replacing the old houses with new and gigantic shopping malls, the Bath merchants try to fit their businesses into these antiquities, no matter it is just a small business of selling alcohol or as big as M&S.

These old houses are the living history. You may peek how the British used to live. Some of them even came through the war time, evident from the scar of firegun and cannon on their bodies. In some occassions, there are words carved onto the masonry walls. These are the history books!

The Pulterney Bridge crosses over the River Avon. It was built in the 18th century. Just like the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, the Pulterney Bridge is another one with shops along its whole span. Under the midspan of the Bridge is the water of Avon cascading downstream. With a closer look, the water is indeed quite murky. Yark!!

Beside the Pulterney Bridge is a large piece of grass. Quite a lot of tourists visit there and enjoy the warm sunlight. Unlike the other parks on the Island, a "small" subscription of around GBP 5.00 is needed for entrance. Worth it or not? It's up to you.

We had our first English breakfast in Bath. A traditional English breakfast contains fried eggs, fried bacon, baked beans, toast, hash brown, sausages, grilled tomato etc.

I was nearly black-out without anything into my stomach in the morning. This breakfast filled up my energy bar in time. The margarine slightly turned from its solid form into liquid under the sun. But it didn't affect the taste much. Baked beans and hash brown are my favourite. The hash brown was not as hard as McDonald's. That's what I want!

It costs slightly more bucks than I think, though, worth to try.

整道菜其實像是一個 platter,有 Extra-Mature Cheddar cheese, Pork Pie, pickle and salad garnish 伴碟還有兩個 malted grain baguette,豐富得很!

Penang Kwetio

Szechuan chicken vermicelli salad
